About this artwork

A dramatic Baroque scene unfolds in deep shadow: richly dressed figures crowd a gilded carriage drawn by a dark horse, while a break in the clouds opens to vivid blue sky. The contrast of luminous fabric, turbulent water, and dense darkness gives this classical composition a theatrical, contemplative presence suited to a study, library, or gallery wall.
