About this artwork

This dramatic classical painting captures a tense nocturnal interior scene illuminated by the warm, flickering light of a single candle. Standing prominently in the center, a woman in a golden dress holds her hand up near the flame and grasps a sheathed sword at her side, her face cast in sharp contrast of light and shadow. Seated below her, a second woman with a white head covering looks upward while handling fabric. The deep, moody background and rich folds of dark red drapery above enhance the theatrical and mysterious atmosphere of this fine art print.
