About this artwork

A lively interior scene of seated figures, a string instrument resting in an open case, and decorative furnishings. Matisse’s expressive composition pairs leafy greens and cool blues with warm ochre and rose, bringing a richly layered, contemplative mood to a living room, music room, or creative space.
