About this artwork

An oil painting style genre scene depicting an elderly woman with a white head covering cooking eggs in a terracotta bowl over a small stove, while a young boy holds a melon and a glass flask. The dramatic lighting illuminates the subjects against a dark, shadowy background, highlighting the rich earth tones of their garments, the brass mortar and pestle on the table, and the still life elements arranged around the preparation area.
