About this artwork

Hermann Stenner’s expressive portrait centers on a seated man in a broad green hat, pale jacket, and blue tie, with a cigarette at his lips. Vigorous brushwork and a palette of olive, cream, deep green, and brown give the composition a vivid, contemplative presence.
